Mayor Miller Seeks Longer Freeze on Housing Fees….
I have a friend who is a committed conspiracy theorist. Every time I see him I ask him what the latest theory is and I am always amazed at the creativity of the committed. However, this morning when I read the Globe and Mail article (February 2, 2009, Page A7) about Mayor Miller supporting a freeze on development levies, I had to ask myself a few obvious questions.
Is this the Mayor Miller who supported a Land Transfer Tax, which because of its effects, slowed the market in the 416 region in comparison to the 905 region?
Is the same group of developers benefiting who reversed their support, at the last minute, of an Anti-Land Transfer Tax Campaign, led by the Toronto Home Builders Association (they are members) and the Toronto Real Estate Board?
Was the “fix in” and the “Miller Crew” never met a builder they did not love?
Maybe my conspiracy theorist friend has something…what is your take?

Mayor Miller needs to find himself on the unemployment line!!!
He has become too big for his britches…………….
Interesting theory and quite conceivable.
Unfortunately for the Benedict Arnold developers and company, that tactic was based on irrational exuberance of a continuing hot market.
Of course, that was then and this is now.
For the Developers, it’s a short-term money grab which is nickels and dimes compared to the loss in consumer confidence.
The Field of Dreams development assertion is quickly becoming a question…
If you build it…will they come?
They might come if they did not have to pay the Municipal Land Transfer Tax as well as the Provincial Land Transfer Tax, but thanks to the Miller Crew, we will never know…
