What Kind of Mayor Does Toronto Need Now?

iStock_000002664549XSmallWith David Miller deciding not to run in the upcoming Toronto Mayoralty race, it begs the question “What kind of Mayor does Toronto need now?”  Mayor Miller has left us with a wonderful City in decline…

If you, like me, are wondering why it took a 5 week summer Strike to end up with a City Workers contract that could have probably been negotiated without a Strike, I would tell you that it is symptomatic of what is wrong with Mayor Miller’s management. He cannot seem to get consensus on City Council or in the City. He has taken very strong stands on losing causes such as his fight with the Island Airport and the popular Porter Airways and lost a lot of support by implementing two added taxes on Torontonians who drive or buy homes. These taxes will never be great generators of income as they focus on groups rather than the whole who benefit. He has increased City taxes and all you have to do is look around to see a lack of value in those increases…but I digress…

We need a Mayor who will ensure the residents of Toronto are getting value for their taxes…We need a Mayor who realizes that strong Social Programs are important when the infrastucture of the City is not collpasing…We need a Mayor who knows that the daytime population of the City has to bear some of the costs that the Toronto Taxpayers are forced to pay for…We need a Mayor who is more inclusive of the members of City Council and not only those beholding to him…We need a Mayor who is not afraid to look for savings in City Services…We need a Mayor who is not afraid of cutting staff and holding the line on salaries and expenses…and most of all ,we need a Toronto cheerleader…

Any suggestions???

YES WE NEED SOMEONE WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF EXPERTISE
RICHAR OF HOW THE CITY SHOULD BE RUN.. If you weren’t
a Real Estate Agent you would be the best person for
    the job.

The answer is simple – we need any mayor whose name is NOT David Miller! Maybe Hazel would consider a change! At this stage – I’d even take Mel – he would have cleaned up the garbage with the army!

Thanks Ann….We certainly need a change. We need someone who can pull the Councillors together and work to a common goal. Someone who makes sure that all parties are heard from…Sadly, I think that the talent that does exist on Council has not had a voice unless they were in the Mayor’s camp…that is not good leadership.

It seems that Mr. Smitherman the much touted prospect for Mayor, as Mr. Caplan’s predecessor will be losing considerable credibility following the e-health debacle. It would appear “professional” politicians are not the answer to needs of the taxpayer. Perhaps we can find a Bloomberg from within our midst. NYC seems in pretty good shape these days! One has only to view the business or lack of business acumen, of many of our elected representatives at all levels to figure out where it all goes wrong! Sorry Richard but Ann
    B. would make a better Mayor than you!

I’ve always thought that a business person is the answer…someone used to managing people and making sure others at the table get heard…Mr. Tory seems to fit that bill and as it turns out, when he was leader of the Opposition it was he who pushed for the disclosure we are know getting around e-Heath.
