Teranet-National Bank National Composite House Price Index™.
Teranet and the National Bank of Canada joined together about one year ago to produce this House Price Index of major centres across Canada. Please remember that it only reflects the large centres and is comprehensive for those living in those centres but would not reflect a vision of Canada as a whole. I get these newsletters monthly and you can subscribe to them at www.housepriceindex.ca. Teranet's data is from Land Registry systems across Canada so also reflects all transactions, not just...Continue Reading...

Cabbagetown: Rick McCarthy is Coming to the JetFuel Cafe’
Rick McCarthy was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1941. A 7th-Dan Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, McCarthy has trained for 25 years with both Kancho Takemasa Okuyama and Renshi Shah Franco at their Toronto dojos. While working with the renowned Franco, McCarthy discovered a correlation between Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and the evolution of his own half-century career as an artist. “I see my painting and my fighting as being one and the same,” McCarthy says, “a struggle for existence.” Rick McCarthy www.rickmccarthytheartist.com Rick...Continue Reading...
What is Really Up or Down in the Toronto Real Estate Market…
Recently I was interviewed on CBC when the Toronto Real Estate Board released its' figures for July and early August...As usually happens, the Media had decided the story that they wanted to tell and then they looked for me to back them up. There is no doubt that the market is slower in Summer, and there is also no doubt that this August is slower than last August. However, I have a tendency to look at the year as a whole,...Continue Reading...
Neighbourhoods: Cabbagetown Is Going To The Dogs!!!
I decided many years ago, and am now convinced, that in my next life I plan to come back as a dog. Now that major life decision has been made, I also would like to live that next life in the Cabbagetown Neighbourhood of Toronto. I would have lots of friends close by to hang with and when I get tired of smelling their butts, I would have some children to play ball with.... My owners would be able to take me to...Continue Reading...

Condominium Corner: Status Certificates
Within the process of listing and selling a Condominium recently, I got a bit of a run-around from a management office that I thought I might share with you: Before listing we called to order a Status Certificate and was told that the staff person dealing with Status Certificates was out of town on Holiday. We asked for a request form to fill out and dutifully wrote out a cheque for $100 and mailed both to the management office. Not having...Continue Reading...

Toronto Real Estate: Neighbourhood in focus: the Beach
Beach, The Beaches or The Beach? To locals in the Queen and Woodbine area, it is The Beach. Only the uninitiated call it The Beaches. And that is only a part of the east-end snobbery that other Torontonians can only dream of. Among locals, one MUST live west of Woodbine. And God forbid if you live north of Gerrard. Shorts and T-shirts on fabulous bodies abound but so do beer bellies and strollers. The old watering holes and pubs are being replaced by...Continue Reading...
