Cabbagetown Community Update: January 2009

Richard Silver’s Downtown Toronto Blog

There are a couple of great posts this morning and one really needs our attention: The Cabbagetown Youth Centre is in need of a new roof. Let's get the word out and see what kind of Community support we can get. The Centre has done great work over the years and needs our attention. Secondly, It looks as if Cranberries, one of my favourite spots for comfort food is going up-market. The signage has changed and they have opened a new...Continue Reading...

Community: A Great Cabbagetown Post.

Richard Silver’s Downtown Toronto Blog

There is a great Cabbagetown post today that you should take a look at. It is called "Cabbagetown Gets a Lift" and is by Noah Richler, the writer and broadcaster. It has got some easy information for those of us "Foodies" who trapse the streets of Cabbagetown. It misses a few of the great Sri-Lankan and Southern Indian Restaurants like Raashna on Wellesley Street East and the comfort food haven "Cranberries". Enjoy them all, surviving the winter means a few extra pounds... If you...Continue Reading...

Cabbagetown: What Happened at Aberdeen and Parliament?

Richard Silver’s Downtown Toronto Blog

I am a creature of habit. I get up very early, exercise, respond to emails and head to Johnnie Jet Fuel's for a (you'll get it the way I make it!) Latte'. The early morning music can be a bit too stimulating so I often find myself standing outside and watching the new construction at the south-west corner of Aberdeen and Parliament. Most mornings I end up shaking my head. Sorry, but I don't get it! (more...)Continue Reading...

Toronto Real Estate: Cabbagetown

Richard Silver’s Downtown Toronto Blog

It was Cabbagetown Festival, 30 years ago when I spent a Saturday touring around Parliament Street and the area to the East. At the end of the day, I bought my first house for $90,000. It was a great location and has just recently re-sold for over $700,000. Of course, in the interim, like a good REALTOR, I have moved a few times...it is a hazard of the business...you think you have found the perfect home and then you see...Continue Reading...

Toronto Real Estate: Cabbagetown…Don’t Judge This Book…

[gallery=2] My most favourite houses are the ones you do not expect. The ones that clients walk into, look around and say "WOW-this is a surprise!". 321 Wellesley St. E. is one such house. When you look from the outside you see a small looking 100 year old Victorian Storey-and-a-half Cottage....but inside you have a 10 year 2355 Square Foot Skylit 2 Storey home which is structurally detached from the properties it abutts. If you are interested in seeing more, check out the Virtual...Continue Reading...

Downtown Toronto: Cabbagetown

Richard Silver’s Downtown Toronto Blog

Cabbagetown is a Village in the middle of a big City. One of the many that make Toronto great and one of my favourite areas for its' diversity. You can have a great coffee at the Jet Fuel Cafe and be verbally abused by the owner, lovingly named Johnny Jetfuel. Do not order a non-fat, no-foam Latte in a double cup (my usual Starbucks order) or you'll be told "You'll get it how I make it, with 2%, in one cup,...Continue Reading...
