Downtown Toronto News Is Up and Running!

Downtown Toronto News Capture

www.DowntownTorontoNews.com

Every morning I get up, head to the front door, pick up my Globe and Mail  and skip happily to the Toronto Section. What happens in the rest of the world and the world economy is important, but nothing engages me like breaking new in Toronto. Sadly, I find myself with the feeling that I am missing a lot of the Toronto goings-on, and head to the Internet going to several sources to keep up to date. Read the rest of this entry »

Carl Orbach QC, LLB, BA Mayor of Cabbagetown and a lovely man!

CarlVery Sad News for Cabbagetown. A strong supporter of the Cabbagetown Community and all around good guy passed away yesterday and will be buried tomorrow. For years he led the Old Cabbagetown Business Improvement Area and worked tirelessly for the Community. Sadly since retiring a couple of years ago, he has been ill. Even through the pain, he had a great laugh and loved a good story. There are and will be few of the caliber of Carl Orbach…sleep well wonderful Carl… Read the rest of this entry »

Some Video of the Cabbagetown Festival 2009….Why people love Cabbagetown!

YouTube Preview Image

Every year, the weekend after Labour Day in Toronto, Ontario, the residents of Cabbagetown get together and celebrate the neighborhood. It starts early in the morning with Blair’s Run in support of the Cabbagetown Youth Centre, a Parade and then the Cabbagetown Arts and Crafts Show in Riverdale Park! There is great eats at the Park, Farm and on Parliament Street that really highlight the diversity of the neighborhood. It serves to remind us all that Cabbagetown is just a small Town in a big City!

Downtown Toronto: The Difference Between Cyclists and Bicycle Couriers…

istock_000006726893xsmallOver the past few days there has been lots of sadness and anger from the Car and Bicycle community over Monday night’s altercation that ended in the death of a bicycle courier.

It is hard to forget the personalities involved, who they were, what they did and what would have lead to this horrible result. Yes, this City was built mostly for cars and we now have a strong movement to make the streets more bicycle friendly.

I don’t cycle anymore because it is dangerous out there on the City streets. I have had too many friends who have been hurt riding bikes when there were no cars around. The roads are in worse shape then they have ever been and the Trolley tracks make cycling in Toronto an event more like the “Tour de France”. Read the rest of this entry »

Great Annual Cabbagetown Fundraiser to Benefit the Riverdale Farm.

CalendarRiverdale Farm 2010 Calendar Is Back By Popular Demand!

Produced by the Riverdale Farm Advisory Council, the Riverdale Farm 2010 Calendar features fabulous photographs of the Farm’s buildings, gardens and animals throughout the year and includes not-to-be-missed dates of events in the community.

The Council is very grateful to all the local merchants who kindly sponsored the calendar and to all the visitors to the Farm who allowed us to use their photos.  Joel Rotstein and Associates Inc. volunteered their great design and layout services and added some extra colour and whimsy this year.

Calendars are NOW on sale for only $10 at the Riverdale Farm Shop and the Meeting House, the Riverdale Farm Farmers’ Market every Tuesday from 3 – 7 p.m. until October and also at the Cabbagetown BIA Office, 237 Carlton Street.  Look for the calendar on sale at various locations during the Cabbagetown Festival on September 12 and 13. This is a great gift or souvenir for your friends, family, neighbours, guests and hosts.  All proceeds from this fundraising activity will be used to enhance the Farm.
