Change is good!
My tenure as president of the Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) is now over and I have moved to Sotheby’s International Realty Canada. My years at TREB were a great personal challenge and allowed me to learn from the top REALTORS about what was working and what changes to be prepared for in the coming years.
I was privy to lots of new technology to assist in presenting your properties at the highest level and moving to Sotheby’s International Realty Canada has just emphasized the next steps to provide you with better and better service.
While I was at TREB, we launched several new services such as the Internet Data Exchange (IDX) and Virtual Office Websites (VOW) that allow you to search for MLS properties in a selected area. It is all about being more open and giving you better access to listings. I hope you can make the best use of them and find your desired property. I will continue to lead the charge for adoption of new technology and new models.
However, I pride myself on being the client’s confidant. That is why I was happy to lead the fight against the Competition Bureau who felt that the seller’s name, the commission offered to the cooperating agent and the negotiated price before closing should be part of a VOW feed. When the press ask me to disclose negotiated prices before closing or for stories about my clients, I never tell them. You will never see my listings in a What they Got article. Some agents use those as a way to market their services but that is just not me.
I have begun a process of revamping my online presence and making our work more efficient with less paper. The Ontario Government has recently passed an amendment to the Electronic Signatures Act which will allows us more flexibility and services for you. Like all businesses Real Estate is moving more paperless and Cloud oriented.
Our team has expanded. We have a new team member Tania Bettencourt who is managing our Technology and we have hired Foliovision to help with our online marketing, giving more exposure to our clients’ properties. They are keeping Sherille and me on our toes.
As some of you may know, Sherille, her husband Ed and their four-year-old are back in Toronto after an 18 month sojourn in England with family. They lived at our home for two and a half months while they went through a difficult search and buy process. Having them back in town and getting settled has been full of adventure, but the outcome is very positive.
We are focusing on a strong team approach, using the talents each of us possess in the right spots. This allows us to dedicate more of our time and energy to our clients. It is all about taking you, our clients, to the next level and providing more service towards successful completion of your Real Estate transactions.
The real estate market in Toronto is picking up steam. This July had the highest sales numbers since July 2009, so I am looking forward to a probably even busier period in fall. If you are thinking of selling, buying or both, please let us know so that we can assist.
