Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Over the past few years I have joined with REALTORS across Canada to help fund the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights which has had its’ opening this fall. Last week I was happy to be in Winnipeg, Manitoba to take part in the festivities surrounding the opening. REALTORS donated over $2,000,000 across Canada and the building is a great experiential Museum.

Canadian Museum for Human Rights is the first museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. It was established by Parliament in 2008 and envisioned as a national and international destination, a centre of learning, where Canadians and people from all around the world can engage in discussions and commit to taking action against hate and oppression.

CMHR is the realization of a dream of the late Israel (Izzy) Asper, a philanthropist and founder of CanWest Global Communications Corp. Asper wanted to create a place where Canadians could learn about human rights and how important it is to protect them.

The Museum offers “11 galleries, guided tours, interactive experiences, thought provoking programs and creative use of mobile technology ” and it’s definitely worth a visit!
